An alpha reader or beta reader, also pre-reader or critiquer, is a non-professional reader who reads a written work, generally fiction, with the intent of looking over the material to find and improve elements such as grammar and spelling, as well as suggestions to improve the story, its characters, or its setting. Beta reading is typically done before the story is released for public consumption.– Definition Courtesy of Wikipedia

Betas provide insight into a manuscript from a reader – not an editor or authors, point of view.  Providing constructive criticism and praise on what or doesn’t work for them – your prospective audience. With a fresh prospective, their written notations and reports may assist you in making your work the best it can be.

“A Beta is more than a reader. A Beta is an essential marketing tool.”
